We share your commitment to animal health and to ending the pet overpopulation problem.

Our complete puppy and kitten programs enable you to take your new puppy or kitten from its first set of vaccinations to the spay or neuter at a savings of over 20 percent to you. The programs are split into five visits and include thorough physical exams, all essential vaccines, parasite control, necessary laboratory tests and finally the spay or neuter surgery. To qualify, your new pet must 10 weeks or younger; they must be spayed or neutered by the age of 6 months and the program must be paid in full at time of surgery.

The Puppy Program includes thorough physical exams with each visit, deworming and intestinal parasite exam, essential vaccinations and a presurgical blood screen the day of surgery. Also included with the first visit is a Puppy Pack from Hill’s Pet Nutrition.

The Kitten Program includes thorough physical exams with each visit, FeLV/FIV blood test, deworming and intestinal parasite examination, essential vaccinations and a presurgical blood screen the day of surgery. Also included with the first visit is a Kitten Pack from Hill’s Pet Nutrition. If you would like your kitten declawed at time of spay or neuter it is offered at a discounted price.

Reproduction services

In December 1999 Dr. Rick Scherr was certified to freeze canine semen from Synbiotics. After specializing in advanced canine reproduction for several years, Big Sky became an AKC-approved center in 2004 and we ship and receive both chilled and frozen semen internationally. Scherr has also had extensive experience with challenging infertility cases.

Elder pet services

We want to help you maintain the highest quality of life for your pet, enhancing the bond that we all share. Together we can make the senior years the most rewarding years for you to share with your pet. Talk to your veterinarian today about your pet’s senior wellness.

At Big Sky Animal Medical Center, we offer three levels of our Senior Wellness Program. Some of the tests included are:
• A physical exam is the most important part of the senior program. Your veterinarian will assess all body systems to check for any abnormalities.
• Blood chemistry tests measure levels of various substances in the blood and can help diagnose diseases such as diabetes, and liver and kidney failure.
• A complete blood count (CBC) provides a detailed look at the blood itself and can help the doctor diagnose anemia or infection.
• Intestinal parasite exam checks for the presence of common parasites and their eggs.
• A urinalysis gives information on kidney function and checks for urinary tract infections.
• An early renal detection test detects small amounts of protein in the urine. This test detects protein when only approximately 25 percent of the kidneys are damaged whereas 65 percent of the kidneys are damaged before it shows up in blood work.
• Generally, chest radiographs are performed to assess the heart and lungs. However, your veterinarian may also recommend abdominal radiographs to assess liver or kidneys.
• Electrocardiogram is an electrical measurement of heart function.
